Winston Churchill was a British statesman who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945, during the Second World War, and again from 1951 to 1955. He is best known for his leadership of the United Kingdom during the war, and his speeches are still studied and quoted today.
Churchill was born in Oxfordshire, England, in 1874. He studied at Harrow School and Sandhurst Military Academy, and then served in the British Army for several years. He entered politics in the early 1900s, and served in several cabinet positions before becoming Prime Minister in 1940.
As Prime Minister, Churchill led the United Kingdom through the Second World War. He was a strong advocate of fighting the Nazis, and his speeches helped to rally the British people during the war. He also played a key role in the Allied victory at the Battle of Britain.
After the war, Churchill remained active in politics. He served as Prime Minister again from 1951 to 1955, and he also wrote several books about his life and experiences. He died in 1965 at the age of 90.
